It is surprising that some top teams in previous seasons are so low on the rankings this year, with the L.A. Lakers may be saying goodbye to their star player Kobe Bryant, and their 2016 first-round pick may be headed for Philly if it falls outside the top three. We may see an improved New Orleans Pelicans, with the help of their new coach Alvin Gentry to stay in the top 10 spots throughout the season.

A lot of fans are still looking at the Cleveland Cavaliers to be in the finals, even if it is another 250 days away. Thanks to LeBron James, as well as other players like Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and Anderson Varejao; on top of the fact there is no clear number 2 in the East to give them a challenge. This season will certainly have some great basketball games, as past top ranked teams fall and newer and fresher teams take the lead.

NBA Basketball Playoffs Highly Competitive This Year

NBA Basketball 2015 Playoffs

The 2015 NBA Basketball Playoffs semifinals are looking to be extremely competitive this year. Everyone thought that the Cavaliers would get trounced by the Bulls, but LeBron James was able to pull off an amazing game last night, leading them to victory over Derrick Rose and the Bulls; giving them a lead 3-2 after Game 5.

By amazing, we mean that he played exactly like his reputation demands of him:

  • Points: 38
  • Rebounds: 12
  • Assists: 6
  • Steals: 3

If he continues to play like this he may finally get his chance at getting the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA Finals and a championship title; just like he promised all those years ago.

Current NBA Power Rankings, Basketball Team’s That Improved On Week 24

NBA Basketball rankings

During this week’s power rankings, we have seen that the Golden State Warriors basketball team is still leading in the power rankings during Week 24 of the NBA season. They have been doing an amazing job, even on the road, which had many fans worried. Everyone knew the Warriors were a strong team, but never imagined they would rank best among so many other top tier teams. They can’t let their guard down though, as they do have an upcoming match against Memphis Grizzlies, currently ranked 7th and could be on the rise.

A few teams are disappointing more than one basketball fan. The Heat are not doing to hot right now, but may have a chance to improve their standing this week. The Lakers continue with their sub-par performance, and the Charlotte Hornets are going on a 0-4 streak. It isn’t all that bad though, as they are still being consistent with their performance, too bad it doesn’t look like it will improve any time soon.

Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers are slightly improving, as they jumped up three points in the rankings, but are still quite behind. They will need to continue performing this well if they hope to get to the playoffs. It will be a tough road for them. The current basketball power rankings of week 24 are:

NBA Power Rankings: Lakers reign supreme once again

#1- Los Angeles Lakers (48-20)

Any time a team in any professional sport wins a championship a target is painted directly on their back the following season as every single team in there league will be giving them all they can handle each and every night. The Los Angeles Lakers have not only had to endure that treatment last season, but they have done it again this and so far they have come out on top as they are arguably once again the best team in the league.

#2- Chicago Bulls (47-18)

Throughout this entire NBA regular season people have doubted the Chicago Bulls chance of competing with the best of the best and being able to make a run at an NBA title. As of yesterday, those doubts have vanished as the Chicago Bulls are officially owners of the best record in the Eastern Conference ahead of the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat.

Even though this team still has to prove themselves come playoff time, they have play extremely well at this point and have a lot of people talking about a Bulls-Lakers NBA Finals at season’s end.

#3- San Antonio Spurs (54-13)

All season long the San Antonio Spurs have been the best team in the league statistically and record wise. Even though they will almost certainly head into the playoffs as the number one overall seed in the Western Conference and the league’s best record, they have really shown some flaws as of late with two big losses to the two-time defending NBA champion Lakers and the revamped Heat.

If any team can turn it around and get back to playing dominant basketball on both ends of the floor it is the Spurs, but they will need to step it up from here on out if they expect to contend with the Lakers come playoff time.

#4- Dallas Mavericks (47-19)

Like most of the teams on this list, the Dallas Mavericks fell victim to the defending champs recently as Kobe Bryant and company came into Dallas and just dominated the Mavs from start to finish. Not only did this loss ultimately result in the Mavs dropping to the third seed in the West, but it may have also damaged their confidence if they should meet the Lakers during the playoffs.

#5- Boston Celtics (47-18)

It wasn’t all that long ago that the Boston Celtics were considered to be arguably the best team in the league as they were dominant on both ends of the floor, especially defensively. Ever since they made the trade sending arguably their best defender in Kendrick Perkins to the Oklahoma City Thunder, this team has really struggled to get back to form and as a result have been knocked out of the top spot in the Eastern Conference and are in danger of falling out of the top five on this list.

#6-10- Miami Heat (46-21), Oklahoma City Thunder (43-23), Denver Nuggets (40-27), Orlando Magic (42-26) and Portland Trail Blazers (37-29)

NBA Playoff Preview: Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat

The sand in the hour glass is starting to empty much quicker than anticipated for the Boston Celtics as they have gone from NBA superpower that won an NBA title a couple of years ago to a team full of aging veterans desperately holding on to title contender status.

Even though many people believe we are witnessing the end of a short era in Boston, the Celtics believe they still have a solid shot at competing for an NBA title and it would be hard to disagree with them.

When this season is all said and done with an NBA title back in Boston or not, the Celtics will almost certainly look very different next season as sharp shooter Ray Allen will be a free agent and Boston might go dipping into the talent packed free agent market starting July 1st.

With most teams in the NBA looking to upgrade in the offseason through free agency, the league might look drastically different next season and with that being said this could very well be the last time the Big Three (Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen) will be able to compete for an NBA title with the team still intact.

Kevin Garnett’s career and in the NBA is quickly coming to an end as is become more obvious that this body cannot hold up for an 82 game season anymore. This is a harsh realization for the Boston Celtics as they knew this time was coming even when they acquired it from the Minnesota Timberwolves a few years ago.

With that being said, the Boston Celtics will probably do all they can in the off-season to improve their roster in order to compete at the likes of the best teams in the East next season. One big change that might happen in the Atlantic division would be the New York Knicks becoming a superpower in the NBA once again if they can get their hands on LeBron James and another big name free agent like Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire.

If that happens, the future for the Boston Celtics will look drastically different as they will have to compete within their division all season long with the potential best team in league. Obviously this is something to think about in the summer starting July 1st, but in the meantime the Boston Celtics will put all their energy into figuring out how to beat the Miami Heat in a seven-game series.

Last season the Miami Heat looked like they could be a dark horse in the Eastern Conference as superstar guard Dwyane Wade had arguably his best season as a Pro.

Unfortunately, the success of the Miami Heat was short-lived and Wade and company went home early once again.

This season the Miami Heat played better than they did in this season previous as they were able to clinch a higher seed and look like they might be able to compete with the Boston Celtics in a seven-game series.

Personally, I still believe the Miami Heat are a couple pieces of the puzzle away from competing with teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics, but they might be able to make a series of this and win a couple of games.

Series Prediction: 4-2 Boston Celtics

NBA Playoff Preview: Atlanta Hawks vs. Milwaukee Bucks

Staff Writer for Basketball Betting - A true Lakers Fan

There are a lot of intriguing matchups coming into the NBA playoffs the season and it looks like we’ll be on our way to another entertaining postseason with a spectacular ending, but in the meantime need to figure look at the first round matchups and see who will be advancing to the next round.

Personally, I believe the first round matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks is a possible seven game series and arguably the most even matchup of all eight in the first go round.

Some people are saying it is the Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets though be the most even matchup and a possible seven game series, but I really think that the Bucks will give the Hawks a run for their money as no one expects Milwaukee to do much in the postseason and they have the talent to do it.

There were a lot of deals that went down before the NBA trade deadline on February 18th earlier this season, but the one deal that has seemed to pay off more than any other deal made by any team in the league has been the Milwaukee Bucks getting John Salmons from the Chicago Bulls.

A lot of attention has been paid to rookie point guard Brandon Jennings, deservedly so, but Salmons should get a lot of credit for the Milwaukee Bucks being playoff bound and success in the second half of the season.

Along with Brandon Jennings and John Salmons, the Milwaukee Bucks also have All-Star caliber center Andrew Bogut who has had somewhat of a breakout season this year and has gone relatively unnoticed due to success of the rookie point guard.

Unfortunately, the Milwaukee Bucks will have to do without their All-Star caliber center in Andrew Bogut as he is struggling with an elbow injury and his playing status is uncertain, but doubtful.

Without Andrew Bogut in the lineup for the Milwaukee Bucks, I believe the Atlanta Hawks will have the edge in the paint and a might just be enough to have Joe Johnson and company advanced to the second round.

The one matchup both this first-round playoff series that will be more intriguing than any it is how well Brandon Jennings plays and how the Atlanta Hawks guard him.

Personally, I don’t think anybody on the Atlanta Hawks can guard Brandon Jennings and if he gets hot or turns it on in the playoffs, the Hawks could be in trouble as Jennings has been known to light up the scoreboards if given the chance.

Earlier in the NBA regular season Brandon Jennings put on a show against the Golden State Warriors by scoring 55 points against Stephen Curry and company and officially putting him on the NBA map as one of the most promising young players in this game.

Ultimately though, the Atlanta Hawks are the better all around team as they have the veterans and most importantly the defense to win this series.

Series Prediction: 4-2 Atlanta Hawks

NBA Playoff Preview: Utah Jazz vs. Denver Nuggets

It would be hard to argue that the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers aren’t the team to beat in the Western Conference playoffs as they are stacked with some of the most talented players in the week and led by arguably the best all-around player in Kobe Bryant.

Even though everybody will be looking to the Los Angeles Lakers to repeat as NBA champs or at least come out of the Western Conference and advance to the NBA Finals, there are two teams in the West that might be able to give them a run for their money if given the chance, but only one of them be altogether first round as the Utah Jazz and the Denver Nuggets will do battle.

It has been a somewhat up-and-down season for both of these Western Conference heavyweights as the Denver Nuggets started off incredibly hot the beginning of the season and Carmelo Anthony looked like a legitimate MVP candidate, but in the second half of the season the nuggets have really struggled to put a winner on the floor on a nightly basis and ultimately head into the playoffs as the fifth seed after being the second seed for the majority of the season.

The Utah Jazz on the other hand have had a completely different kind of seasons as they really struggled in the first half of the regular season and began to excel in the second half as both All-Star point guard Deron Williams and power forward Carlos Boozer started to come into their own.

Even though the jazz were in the running for the second seed in the Western Conference, they fell just short in the last couple weeks of the regular season and now have a daunting task ahead of them trying to figure out how to guard both Chauncey Billups and scoring machine Carmelo Anthony.

There were plenty of great duos around the league that extremely tough to guard as he could focus on one and the other one will hurt you like Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol with the defending champs, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili with the San Antonio Spurs or Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups with the Denver Nuggets.

Despite the Denver Nuggets dynamic duo being as tough to guard as any other duo around league, Utah Jazz also had their deadly one-two punch in Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer who will almost certainly try to establish themselves as forces to be reckoned with early in this playoff series.

One big deciding factor in this playoff series between the Denver Nuggets and the Utah Jazz will be the health of Carlos boozer who will be coming into the first game of this series pretty banged up and nurses a strained muscle in his rib cage.

Initially, Boozer was a game time decision for the Utah Jazz, but just recently he has said he will be doing all he can to get on the floor.
Even though I believe that Boozer will fight through this injury and probably put up double-double performances, the result of him not being 100% will be what makes the Denver Nuggets the favorite to come out on top in this series and advance to the next round.

Series Prediction: 4-3 Denver Nuggets
